Pharmacy Services Professional Liability

The Pharmacy Services Professional Liability Policy provides professional liability coverage on a stand-alone basis for your pharmacy operations.  The coverage includes bodily injury, property damage or personal injury resulting from the rendering or failing to render pharmacy services performed anywhere within the United States and its possessions, Canada or Puerto Rico.

Coverage is available on either an occurrence or claims-made basis and provides liability limits up to $5,000,000 each occurrence, and $5,000,000 aggregate for your pharmacy operations.  Liability deductibles are also available, up to $100,000 per claim.

Pharmacy Services are specifically defined according to the standards for the profession of pharmacy, set by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, and include:

  • The interpretation, evaluation, preparation and dispensing of prescription orders
  • Participation in drug and device selection.
  • The administering of drugs, including immunizations, where permitted by law
  • Drug regimen reviews
  • Drug or drug-related research
  • Medication consulting and patient counseling which are related to drugs, medical devices or medical conditions
  • Compounding
  • Storage of drugs and devices
  • Maintenance of proper records for drugs and devices
  • Pharmaceutical care and other services of a professional nature legally performed by a registered pharmacist as part of his/her professional duties

Coverage is also provided for:

  • Pharmaceutical Care Screenings, including arterial elasticity, blood glucose, blood pressure, body fat composition, bone density, cholesterol, lung function and cardiovascular vision.
  • Coverage for prescription products which are compounded, sold, handled, distributed or disposed of by you, including providing or failure to provide warnings or instructions.
  • Employed pharmacists and pharmacy technicians while performing pharmacy services on your behalf and in the course of conduct of your business.

Optional coverage is available to extend over the professional acts of other employed health care professionals with respect to the conduct of your business, such as for nurses administering immunizations or providing health care screenings at your pharmacy.
