The Pharmacist as Risk Manager

As an expert in drugs and the practice of pharmacy, the pharmacist is in the best position to take the steps necessary to prevent or at least lessen the effects of errors in the prescription filling process. Only the pharmacist has the knowledge to decide the proper technique which can be used to not only reduce the risk of an error occurring, but also which techniques are practical for real use. A trained insurance counselor can assist the pharmacist by introducing "The Risk Management Process" and showing the pharmacist how this insurance concept can be developed to serve in a professional pharmacy practice.
