Director biographies
Edward T. Berg, MBA, CPA, CPCU, graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1972, with a B.A. degree in Accounting. He received his Certified Public Accounting designation in 1973 and worked in public accounting for 5 years, before joining Pharmacists Mutual as controller in 1977. Berg has obtained a Masters of Business Administration, Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and Associate in Reinsurance designations. Berg served as Vice President from 1982 to 1987 and Executive Vice President from 1987 until being elected President in April 2001. In April 2003 Berg was elected Treasurer and Chief Executive Officer. He lives in Algona and began service on the Board in 1994.

Donnie R. Calhoun, R.Ph., attended Troy State University earning a B.S. degree in Biology and then attended/graduated from Samford University in Birmingham in 1987 with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy. Calhoun is a licensed pharmacist in Alabama and Tennessee. He is owner of Golden Springs Pharmacy in Anniston, AL and resides there also. He is a member of National Community Pharmacists Association, Alabama Pharmacy Association, Alabama Independent Drugstore Association and Alabama State Board of Pharmacy. Calhoun was elected to the Board in 2005.

Gerald W. Deom, R.Ph., Gerald W. Deom, R.Ph., graduated from Purdue University School of Pharmacy and has received his Pharmacy Preceptor license from the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy. He has been self employed since 1964. Deom is a member of several professional societies and associations: Kentucky Pharmacists Association, Lincoln Trail Pharmacists Association, NCPA, Radcliff Chamber of Commerce and Etown Chamber of Commerce. Gerald is the owner of Optioncare in Vine Grove and Radcliff, Kentucky. Deom was elected to the Board of Directors in 1997.

Jonathan C. Grether, CPCU, MSIM, CIC, CRM, ARe, AAM, is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. He has also earned his CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter), MSIM (Masters in Insurance Management), CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor), CRM (Certified Risk Manager), ARe (Associate in Reinsurance), and AAM (Associate in Automation Management) designations. Prior to joining Pharmacists Mutual, Grether spent 13 years in various management positions with Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company in Grinnell, Iowa. He also held the position of Executive Vice President with Guilderland Re in Albany, New York, and has most recently spent 7 years as a financial advisor. Grether joined Pharmacists Mutual in 2002 as the Executive Vice President – Operations. In 2004, he was promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Grether was elected to the Board of Directors in 2003.

Kirk M. Hayes, CPCU, graduated from Drake University in 1958, with a B.A. degree in Political Science. He went on to attend Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan where he received a Sociology/Psychology degree in 1961, while serving as an officer of the U.S. Air Force. He completed Correspondence Courses at the Insurance Institute of America, Bryn Mawr, and obtained an Associates degree in Risk Management and the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter designation. Hayes served as Vice President from 1969-75 and as President of Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company from 1975-2001. Hayes was elected to the position chairman of the board in April 2001. He lives in Algona and has served on the Board since 1969.

F. Michael James, R.Ph., graduated from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy. He is a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association, Association of Community Pharmacists, Fellow American College of Apothecaries, North Carolina Association of Pharmacists, Pro Care Association and the North Carolina Banking Commission. James is President of Person Street Pharmacy, Inc. in Raleigh, North Carolina, President of Century Drug, Inc. Deerfield Beach, Florida as well as Governmental Affairs Director for North Carolina Mutual Wholesale Drug Company and he resides in Raleigh, North Carolina. James was elected to the Board of Directors in 2003.

Holly Whitcomb Henry, R.Ph., graduated from Washington State University, Pullman, Washington, in 1978 with a B.S. Degree in Pharmacy. She is a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association, Washington State Pharmacy Association and American Pharmacists Association. Henry is President and CEO of Rxtra Care, Inc., Seattle, Washington. She resides in Seattle and was elected to the Board in 2006.

Randall Scott Myers, R.Ph., graduated in 1981 from Ohio Northern University with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy. He is a member of the Ohio Pharmacists Association, National Community Pharmacists Association and American Pharmacists Association. He serves as president/owner of Harry's Pharmacy in Carey, Ohio. He resides in Carey, Ohio and was elected to the Board in 2004.

Matthew C. Osterhaus, R.Ph., graduated from the University of Iowa in 1980 with a Pharmacy degree (B.S.). He is a member of the Iowa Pharmacy Association, American Pharmacists Association, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, National Association of Board of Pharmacy and National Community Pharmacists Association. Osterhaus is President of Osterhaus Pharmacy in Maquoketa, Iowa, where he also resides. He was elected to the Board in 2002.

Steven T. Simenson, R.Ph., graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy in 1977 with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy. He is a member of APhA, Minnesota Pharmacists Association, NCPA, Century Mortar Club University of MN College of Pharmacy, and American Diabetes Educators Association and has served in various leadership positions of these organizations and other organizations locally. He is President and managing partner of Goodrich Pharmacy in Anoka, Minnesota. He also has pharmacies in Andover, Blaine, Elk River and St. Francis, Minnesota. He resides in Ramsey and was elected to the Board in 2007.

Susan L. Sutter, R.Ph., graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1978 with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy. She is a licensed pharmacist in Wisconsin and co-owner/managing pharmacist of Marshland Pharmacies, Inc. in Horicon, Wisconsin. She is a member of Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin, American Pharmacists Association and National Community Pharmacists Association. Sutter resides in Burnett and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2005.
